My Favorite Places on the Web
The beautiful thing about the web is that it allows anyone to share certain facts with the world even when no one aside from that particular person really cares about them. In keeping with that sentiment, here are some of the sites I like to visit.
Arguably the world's single most popular Blog, the annals of Boing Boing contain articles on virtually everything. Co-founder, author, and sci-fi celebrity, Cory Doctorow posts information on topics ranging from the latest in nano-technology to copyright laws and their place in the modern age.
The first -- and hopefully annual -- Taos Toolbox, created by Walter Jon Williams with Connie Willis and guest lecturer George R. R. Martin, finished on July 21st amid a chorus of bittersweet sighs and heavy hearts. The experience was simply unbelievable! We worked hard, to be sure, but the caliber of the participants and the quality of the writing made that effort more than worthwhile. Our instructors, Walter and Connie, were nothing short of amazing. If anyone ever has a chance to attend another workshop organized by Walter, I would recommend you do so without hesitation.
Writers from novice to expert can find help and support in this online writers workshop. There is a nominal fee each year, but for people serious about writing, the price is well worth it.
For fans of science fiction and fantasy literature, this man needs no introduction. This is his webpage with links to his blog.
PS. I've actually met Walter and he is a great person as well as a skilled author!
This site is an absolute must for aspiring writers due to its valuable advice and wealth of knowledge. Don't start submitting without looking through it first.
A great place to go to find out whether the majority of reviewers like a movie or not. Unlike many sites, Rotten Tomatoes does not rate its movies by how much reviewers like them, though that information is available too, but rather by how many reviewers think they are fresh (good) or rotten (bad). To date, this site has always been spot on when ferretting out the stinkers.
